PREP

PDF Document and Remediation Platform

The cloud-based software PDF Document and Remediation Platform (PREP) simplifies, automates, and accelerates converting PDF documents into accessible educational materials. Using PREP to remediate PDF documents makes them compliant with accessibility laws and VT Policy 7215. With help from PREP, Virginia Tech employees can ensure all users have access to content regardless of perceived disabilities.

PREP-remediated documents ensure accessible communications among people with disabilities using assistive technology such as screen magnifiers, screen readers, and alternative computer input devices. PREP features sophisticated AI-based auto-tag detection that improves the time-consuming and tedious tagging process, especially in making tag-nested lists and tables of contents (ToC). In addition, PREP’s built-in optical character recognition (OCR) mode recognizes documents with poor quality or complex structures and assists in remediating scanned documents.

Since PREP is browser-based, it is accessible from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection, but it performs best in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera browsers.
